BusinessWeek published an article on December 4th called "Health 2.0: Patients as Partners" which looks at patient engagement in health. The story focuses almost exclusively on PatientsLikeMe which has garnered a great deal of press already. More interesting was a slide show they compiled profiling 23 other "patient power" sites ranging from big names like GoogleHealth and Microsoft HealthVault to start-up patient networks like CureTogether (focused on helping patients and researchers connect) and Disaboom (for people with disabilities). Also listed were established, high powered healthcare institutions providing quality online resources like Mayo Clinic and MD Anderson Cancer Center.
There is nothing in the article that will be new to those who read this blog. However, its inclusion in a mainstream media outlet like Business Week signals that the movement is gaining momentum and possibly wider acceptance.
